ANALOGUE CLASSES

These are the classes we regularly race on our 4-lane track. Strictly in "out of the box" condition, i.e. as they were, in the box that you bought them in when new. If second hand, as they would have been in the box when new, of course with small allowances made for wear and tear they may have experienced in someone else's ownership, odd missing wing mirror or headlamp glass for example, but not entire wing or bumper assemblies. We recently added an additional rule that all cars in analogue races must have a visible driver figure in them. Hence any cars with blacked-out windows (Audi TTs, Boxsters, etc.) or missing or beheaded driver figures, are not permitted.

Prospective new members need not worry about not having a car for every class. Some of our members barely have enough of their own cars for one rota, but others have sizeable collections, so there is plenty of chance to borrow a car for race night; although the chances of doing well with a car you've never driven before are not so good, so members acquire their own cars over time to reduce their need for hire cars. We also have a comprehensive list of cars that are eligible for each class to minimise the risk of someone bringing along an invalid entry.

Rota 1

Typical class entries

No-Mag Saloon
Any Saloon car without magnet (road saloons, sports, rally etc.) - pre-2000 models. NB "No-Mag" does not permit "magnet removed" cars. It means "never had a magnet". Ortmann tyres allowed on these.

Historics
Cars mainly of the 50s and 60s, with magnet, any make, see the Garagemaster's classification sheets for details.

Formula 1 - Non Hornby
Any modern F1 car (with any magnet other than brown). Any brand OTHER THAN Hornby Scalextric (which is in a separate class)

F1 with "brown/grey magnet"
Early, weaker "magnatraction" F1 cars with magnet on underside of car. These cars run on regular "Eagle"-type restoration tyres (TYRE05).

Benetton B189
Sports GT
For sports cars with magnet, a covered cockpit and a rear wing with clear daylight between the wing and the rest of the car body - not DTM or other Touring Cars though, these have their own class.
Dodge Viper

Rota 2

Typical class entries

A1GP
Any car from the Hornby A1GP range - all drivers to use a different country from each other.

Rally
Any rally car (e.g. Subaru, Peugeot etc.) with magnet, driver and co-driver figures inside. Dakar-type cars included here.

Button Magnet Saloon
Any saloon car with the smaller button/barrel magnet and ONE driver figure.
No-mag F1 Open Chassis
Any F1 style single seater (without a magnet) - pre-2000 models only, not "modern no-mags" - and no undertray. Ortmann tyres permitted on these.

Brown Magnet Le Mans
Jaguars, Rothmans Porsches etc. from the 1980s with brown magnets. Ortmann tyres are permitted on these cars as regular tyres that fit in the wheel arches are no longer easily available.

Rota 3

Typical class entries

Le Mans Prototype
Open cockpit LMP cars only (with magnet), e.g. MG Lola, Lister Storm, etc.
Lola
Touring Cars
DTM / BTCC / WTCC Opels, Mercedes, Audis, Leons, etc. (with magnet)
Opel
Button Magnet Rally
Any button-magnet rally car with TWO driver figures.
No-mag F1 Closed chassis
Any F1 style single seater (without a magnet) - pre-2000 models only, not "modern no-mags" and with an undertray. Ortmann tyres permited on these.
Brown magnet Saloon
Any saloon car with a brown magnet on the underside.

Benched classes - For the current season these are not being raced but will usually reappear the following season.
F1 - Hornby
Any F1 car from the Hornby range
Indycar
Any Indycar (Dallaras, mainly)
Minis
Any Mini, Mini Coopers, BMW Minis etc. (with magnet), except, if it has a co-driver in it, then it's a rally car and goes in the rally class.
Mini
Nascar
Ford Tauruses, Pontiacs etc., (with magnet) and a Sidewinder motor (in-line-motored Nascars are too slow for this class)
Nascar
Caterhams
Any Caterham 7 or Lotus 7 (with magnet)
Caterham
Road cars
Any road car without a racing number

No-MAG MOTORS in
open chassis cars
rx motor
Old-style RX motor
standard motor
Modern "Mabuchi" motor

Cars with the early RX motor (identifiable by a large rectangular magnet just behind the guide blade) are classed as non-magnet - because the magnet is integral to the motor and not put there purely for added traction.

There is only 60mm headroom in the underpass, so no trucks! All cars must have their original magnets where applicable. Cars in any of the above classes that have been chipped for digital can still run in an analogue race (see rules page).

After some meetings we have time for a short non-championship "Endurance-style" race using one of the classes from the rota we're not racing that week.
